Collaboration Technologies

Collaboration Technologies research is investigating how real-time interactive technologies -- for example, videoconferencing -- and information-sharing tools can help meet the need for collaboration in scientific research, the provision of telemedicine services, and distance education.

Technologies employed in this research can be open source, standards-based, or customized. OHPCC’s Collaboratory (Collab) is the venue used to evaluate state-of-the-art and emerging technologies, interact with colleagues at other institutions, conduct telemedicine and distance learning research, and support certain NLM distance education programs. Collab resources can be configured to support 3D computer graphics and video (some with stereoscopic projection), compressed and uncompressed high definition and 4K resolution video, haptic devices for surgical planning and distance education, cloud communication and information storage applications, applications for mobile environments, and interactive multimedia.
