Expertise and Research Interests:
Asher is a second-year postbaccalaureate fellow in Dr. Dina Demner-Fushman’s medical NLP research group. He graduated from the University of Maryland in 2019 with bachelor's degrees in Physics and Computer Science.
Asher’s interests include natural language processing, interpretable machine learning, linguistics, and clinical prediction models. At the NLM he is researching machine learning models to predict clinical outcomes of ICU patients based on clinical notes, and ways to interpret those models in terms that are clinically meaningful. He also investigated the complementary roles of text and structured clinical data for clinical prediction tasks.
