Expertise and Research Interests:

Dr. Anabik Pal is a post-doctoral fellow in the Lister Hill National Center for Biomedical Communications (LHNCBC), US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Maryland, USA. He received the doctoral degree from Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata, West Bengal, India in 2019. Before the doctoral degree, he did Master of Engineering in Software Engineering (MESE) and Master of Computer Application (MCA) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, West Bengal, India in 2013 and 2011 respectively. He did Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) course (Computer Science Hons.) in 2008 from Ramakrishna Mission Residential College, Kolkata, West Bengal, India. He attended Onda High School, Onda, Bankura, West Bengal, India for doing Secondary and Higher Secondary study.

Since the Masters’ courses, Dr. Anabik Pal is working in medical image computing tasks with active collaboration with clinicians. His masters’ research focused on automatic identification of skin disease and his Ph.D. research focused on automated analysis of Psoriatic skin. He initiated his Ph.D. research by proposing a novel mixture model for clustering circular-linear data and utilized it for dermatological image segmentation problems. Later, he became interested to explore the latest advancement of deep neural networks for analyzing skin images. He has developed several classification and segmentation algorithms using deep convolutional neural network and capsule network. He has applied the developed algorithms for automatic analysis of psoriatic skin images. His research works are available in different journals (Pattern Recognition, Computer Method and Program in Biomedicine) and conference proceedings (ICPR 2016, MICCAI 2018, etc.).

Currently, Dr. Anabik Pal is working on the development of cutting edge image analysis solutions for cervical screening. He is being mentored by Dr. Sameer Antani, Staff Scientist, US National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health, Maryland, USA.

Professional Activities:

Dr. Anabik Pal serves as a reviewer for several international journals (IEEE Transaction on Neural Network and Learning System, Pattern Recognition, etc.). He serves as the Treasurer for ACM Student Chapter Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkata during 2016. He is a life-time member of the IUPRAI affiliated to IAPR.

Honors and Awards:

Dr. Anabik Pal received national scholarship form Indian government for attending Master of Engineering in Software Engineering (GATE fellowship during 2011-13) and doing Ph.D. research (Institutional Fellowship from Indian Statistical Institutes July 2013-October 2019).
