LHNCBC Announces New Release of SimpleITK Toolkit
LHNCBC announces the first major release of the SimpleITK Toolkit, an easy-to-use interface to ITK, the NLM Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit.
SimpleITK helps broaden the ITK user community beyond experienced software developers to include students, researchers, domain scientists, and novice software developers. For example, the concise interface lets students explore how well-known image segmentation (partitioning an image into segments) and registration (transformation into one coordinate system) algorithms perform. Experienced software developers will also find SimpleITK useful, for example to rapidly prototype segmentation and registration frameworks and evaluate the effects of algorithmic parameter setting.
The toolkit has been used in courses taught at several leading universities, including Carnegie Mellon University, University College London, the University of British Columbia, and the University of Iowa.
SimpleITK is available in Python, R, Java, C#, C++, Lua, Ruby, and TCL. Binary versions are available for the GNU Linux, Apple OS X, and Microsoft Windows operating systems. The source code is freely available on github under an Apache-2.0 license.
SimpleITK is part of the ITK research project at the LHNCBC Office of High Performance Computing and Communications and is developed in coordination with the Insight Software Consortium.
