This presentation will review some of natural language processing initiatives at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC). Three initiatives that are in various stages of development will be discussed:
1) the development of visual languages to present complex clinical reports;
2) the development of artificial experts for personalized medicine feature selection;
3) the results of a shared-task in developing autocoding algorithms that required the public release of encrypted clinical data.
CCHMC is one of the top three pediatric centers in the country with 350 pediatric faculty members. Over 800,000 patients are seen and approximately $1billion in pediatric care and research is conducted annually.
