This presentation describes the SPECIALIST lexicon, lexical tools and natural language processing (NLP) tools produced by
the Lexical Systems Group. The SPECIALIST lexicon is a large syntactic lexicon of biomedical and general English,
designed to provide the information needed for text analysis and natural language processing. The lexical tools exploit
the lexicon to help users deal with lexical variation. The NLP tools build on the the lexicon and lexical tools to
facilitate analysis of natural language texts. These tools provide the foundation of NLP work done at the Lister Hill
Center and are freely available to outside researchers.
