RxNav, the "default paths" table, and API function getRelatedByType have been adjusted to show only clinically relevant links to and from precise-formulation term types SCDFP, SCDGP, and SBDFP.
Specifically, these changes ensure that:
In most cases, the corrections were achieved by means of a different sequence of RxNorm relationships. For example, the BPCK => SCDGP path (in the first example above) has been re-routed from "BPCK => GPCK => SCD => SCDG => SCDGP" to "BPCK => GPCK => SCD => SCDFP => SCDGP" to avoid broadening the precise ingredients.
A few cases required linking not just two, but three immediate neighbors of a concept. Written serially, as paths rather than miniature graphs, these paths must revisit at least one concept. For example, the SCDGP => DFG path has been re-routed from "SCDGP => SCDG => DFG" to "[DFG => SCDG =>] SCDGP => SCDFP => SCD => SCDG => DFG", i.e., linking one SCDG to three concepts, the SCDGP, the DFG, and the SCD. The main part of the path, SCDGP => SCDFP => SCD => SCDG => DFG, ensures that the two terminal concepts, SCDGP and DFG, have a common related product (the SCD), but it does not ensure that they have the same dose-form group: that guarantee was lost with the hop from SCDGP to SCDFP. The filter part of the path, [DFG => SCDG =>] SCDGP…, requires that the SCDG and SCDGP be directly related. To facilitate straightforward, start-to-finish traversal, the path can alternatively be stated with an interior detour instead of a filter: SCDGP => SCDG => DFG => SCDG => SCDGP => SCDFP => SCD => SCDG => DFG.
The table below lists the path changes. In cases that require linking a concept to more than two immediate neighbors, the rationale of the New Path is clarified by setting the filter off from the main part of the path by square brackets.
