Spelling Varaints in SD-pairs

The spelling variants are handled in two ways in the suffix derivations:

  • If the difference between spVars happens before the suffix (not included in the SD-Rules), spVars are not included. For example, the SD-rule $|noun|ful$|adj generates:
    • color -> colorful
    • colour -> colourful

    In this case, we do not include [color|noun|colourful|adj] or [colour|noun|colorful|adj] as valid SD-pairs.

  • If the difference between spVars happens in the suffix (part of SD-rules), spVars are included. They are mostly from nominalizations. SpVars are counted in the nominalizations. For example, E0330515|monomerisation, has two nominalizations
    • monomerisation|noun|monomerise|verb
    • monomerisation|noun|monomerize|verb

    Similarly, the associated spVar, E0330515|monomerization, also has two nominalizations:

    • monomerization|noun|monomerise|verb
    • monomerization|noun|monomerize|verb

    Accordingly, all four above cases are legit suffixDs because nomD (derived from nominalizations) is a type of suffixD. In this case, 4 SD-rules are used as candidates for evaluation:

    • sation|noun|se|verb
      => ation|noun|e|verb
    • zation|noun|ze|verb
      => ation|noun|e|verb
    • sation|noun|ze|verb
    • zation|noun|se|verb
