Biography:
Dr. Fung joined the NLM to work on the Unified Medical Language System
in 2003, and has been involved in the production, quality assurance as
well as research and development of the UMLS Metathesaurus. He received
undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in Hong Kong.
He practiced surgery for 15 years before becoming a full-time medical
informaticist, overseeing the
development of clinical information systems in all the
public hospitals of Hong Kong.
He received a MS degree (with distinction) in Computer-based
Information Systems from the University of Sunderland,
United Kingdom. He also received a MA degree
in Medical Informatics from Columbia University, New York.
Dr. Fung enjoys traveling a lot. Among his favorite destinations are France, New Zealand and Japan.
