Public Health Service Act authorizes commissioning of physical therapists,
however, they were providers in the Service as early as 1919.
1946: Dr. A. William Reggio was assigned to the
Division of Hospitals as Chief of the newly created Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation Branch
1949: USPHS Physical Therapist, Eleanor Loomis,
appointed Acting Chief of Rehabilitation and Physical Medicine Branch of the
Division of Hospitals - taking over the position from newly retired Dr. A
William Reggio |
