1930: The Federal Bureau of Prisons is established with the PHS providing health care to Federal  prisoners.

1931: Occupational therapists begin work at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

1935: The first PHS hospital for the treatment of drug addiction is opened in Lexington, Kentucky.
