Abstract:
This report to the Board of Scientific Counselors covers three research projects on medical terminologies: RxTerms, Problem List Vocabularies and Inter-terminology Mapping. These projects focus on practical issues, problems and barriers in the use of medical terminologies in computer systems. The research is often triggered by a specific need or challenge that arises when medical terminologies are deployed in real-life applications. The goal of this research is to facilitate and promote the use of standard medical terminologies, improve clinical documentation, enable efficient data reuse, enhance data interoperability and ultimately to improve patient care.
